Draai Laag Tap Room Grand Re-opening

We talked with Draai Laag Brewing Company and decided it's only proper for us to be slinging Brisket sammies at the tap room re-opening since we were such a hit at the Biergarten opening. And I hear they probably used as much wood remodeling the inside as they did on the outside!
Setup from 5-9pm Thursday, come visit!

Plus, there's the new beer release:

Apples & Pears on draft.

Like a Brit with a cockney accent, this wild ale is both inspired by English ciders and true to its roots in Belgian farmhouse funk. Secondary fermentation with Brettanomyces, white wine yeast, elderflowers & the namesake fruits results in a tasty bouquet of dry, tart and floral notes. No porky.

4.3% abv
76% Attenuation
Made With: Brettanomyces Lambicus, Claussenii and White Wine Yeast

East End Brewery / Halloween CAN-dy edition

We are visiting East End for their Halloween CAN-dy event.  They are celebrating the introduction of Crowlers at the Brewery.  We will introduce you to our Burgh Best Brisket and Pulled Pork!  Probably have some Haluski for the non-meatatarians.

Here's some more details of the beer releases:

Plus now, for our super-small-batch beers, where a full on bottling run doesn't really make sense, it's a lot easier for us to get a shelf-stable, more portable container into your hands... just perfect for beers we've been aging in oak! In fact, we're going to try that out soon, with 3 new beers hitting our taps on October 31st:

Bourbon Barrel Aged Fatter Gary Imperial Brown Ale - Yes, Fat Gary has a FATTER cousin, and we tucked some away in oak about a year ago, and now he's ready to come out.

Bourbon Barrel Aged Steelcut Oatmeal Stout - We decided to give this lower abv beer a try in our barrel aging program, and we're VERY pleased with the results.

Weiser Peach Sour - This is the kettle soured beer we brewed with 100lbs of fresh peaches and debuted as this year's BigPour Brew last month. This is the first time it's hitting our taps!

We are only offering these beers in 32oz Crowlers, 32oz Growlers, and by the glass/taster in our taproom. So there will be no 64oz fills on these three. BUT, we're happy to put ANYTHING ELSE we have on tap into a Crowler too, and this will be part of our regular operations here.

UPDATE 10/23/15:

We just got our WheatHop labels approved, which means we'll have bottles ready for release on October 31st now too!

Sq. Hill Night Market

SQUIRREL HILL NIGHT MARKET

Saturday August 29, Saturday September 26

In August we are launching what we hope will be the largest night market in the city of Pittsburgh. We will further our goal of creating a third place in the heart of Squirrel Hill's business district by delivering great music, shopping, food, and art in a cosmopolitan, open-street setting.

--Community organizations will close a portion of Murray Avenue in coming weeks for two Saturday night festivals featuring food, music and a variety of vendors.

The so-called Night Markets are scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 29 and Sept. 26 and will close Murray from Forbes Avenue to Bartlett Street.

The idea is to attract business and unite people, according to Alec Rieger, who worked with city Councilman Corey O'Connor, the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition and Uncover Squirrel Hill, a merchant's association, to organize the events.

“We're bringing people to a business district that has seen its better days, and people are going to be spending money,” said Rieger, founder and executive director of NextGen: Pgh, a nonprofit community development organization. “In addition, people are going to be talking. ... There's real value to that. By talking and sharing ideas, that's how we can grow our city.”

The festivals will include live bands and acoustic acts playing music for all generations. Rieger said “funky artists” including hula hoop performers and dance contortionists will be there along with 40 to 50 artisans selling locally made products such as jewelry and clothing. Several food trucks are also expected.

Rieger said artists are performing for free and organizers are paying for such things as off-duty police protection and a special events permit to close the street through private donations. He declined to give the total cost.
